Bright blue carriages with their mules hitched to them line up on this sandy road in a
bleached back street of Essaouira. Your eye is led through the picture by the sweep of
the light sand and the curve of the carriage line and is arrested by the small figure
huddled on the right which acts as a counterbalance. It is an image of contrasts, the
bright colours and dark tones against the paleness and neutrality of the setting. The heat
is very much in evidence.
